The Girl on the Beach by author Tracy Buchanan is a heart-touching story about family loss and the discovery of long hidden secrets. Amber Caulfield knows all about disappointments in life. When she was four, she suffered frostbite on the fingers of one hand and they had to be amputated. Amber deals with her pain and emotional anxiety about her hand. Later Amber has to face the unexpected death of her only child, Katy, and this causes the break-up of her marriage with Jasper.
It is Christmas market time and one day as Amber is working in her shop and talking with her mother and aunt, she shes a teenage girl stumbling along the beach. The girl on the beach does not remember her name or where she is from. Amber rides to the hospital with her as she contemplates this bizarre mystery girl. As the story progresses Amber finds the only clues to the girls' identity may be found within a notebook which was in her pocket. A new journey begins as Amber and the mystery girl search for her family and home. This becomes an engrossing story within a story as two separate time lines converge to a shocking ending! I did not see that coming!
