In the Darkest Hour by author Anna Carlisle is the third Gin Sullivan mystery. This series is not to be missed if you enjoy a strong female character and suspense thrillers. In the Darkest Hour is very dark and it takes a while to figure out exactly who the identity of the guilty party. Gin is in a relationship with the troubled Jake Crosby and since the first books, I wanted Jake to be at peace. In this book, we find Jake is soon reeling out of control due to the death of his estranged mother. His reaction is violent and heartbreaking for Gin. Before Gin can process how Jake's actions may affect a current case, there are other gruesome bodies to autopsy and more mysteries thrown into her path.
If you have not read the first two books, Dark Road Home or All the Secret Places do not hesitate to read this book. It is a stand-alone suspense thriller, but knowing the characters from the other books does help a bit to put relationships into perspective.
Gin is tough, smart, and never hesitates to find the truth!
