Jeffrey Deaver The Cutting Edge Murder, Diamonds, and Explosions

The Cutting Edge (Lincoln Rhyme #14) by author Jeffrey Deaver is another fast-paced thriller featuring criminal consultants, Lincoln Rhymes and Amelia Sachs. In this book, the recent murders of engaged couples or the soon-to-be-brides may not be the underlying reason for the brutal killings and attempted murders. The serial killer, unsub 47 has been given the name of The Promisor because he seems to be targeting certain diamantaires and couples who have recently ordered or purchased specific diamonds for their engagement rings. One young woman is made to swallow her 5-carat diamond ring to avoid being murdered. So this proves the killer is not really interested in taking the diamonds. What is his motive for the brutality?
Vimal Lahori is a very talented apprentice diamond cutter who happened to see the first murdered couple as he entered the 47th street jewelry shop of his mentor, Mr. Jaten Patel. He discovers Mr. Patel is dead also, so Vimal flees the shop. He knows the killer will be looking for him for maybe more than one reason!
As I was reading the book I was worried Rhyme was making some uncharacteristic assumptions and mistakes. Amelia Sachs experiences a horrifying incident which does not stop her investigation of this case.
I won't post spoilers, but there is more to the mystery than the diamonds. Also Lincoln accepts a challenging opportunity to look at the evidence of 'El Halcon' on trial for the paralyzing injuries of Barry Sales.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
