Mood Indigo, An Edna Ferber Mystery by author Ed Ifovic...A moody Mystery...Very Good 1930's setting!

Mood Indigo, An Edna Ferber Mystery by author Ed Ifovic is set in the early 1930’s just after the stock market crash. This mystery is written about some of the upper echelon of society but also with attention to the emotions and despair of the depression and its effect upon middle class America.
The story starts out at a birthday bash for Noel Coward with a stream of writers, publishers, and celebrities which have gathered to drink and dance the night away during the holidays. The characters are well written and as you read the book, you almost believe you are reading a true accounting of Edna Ferber interviewing people of interest in the murder of a young stage performer and singer.
Dougie Maddox and Belinda Ross are a young couple who are making the rounds of gossip among the group at the party and not all of it is good. Dougie is from old money and Belinda is a struggling stage sensation trying to make her way to Broadway. As you can imagine, some people are not happy about this couple’s love affair and the future.
As events happen, Edna and Noel work together to find the answers of who committed the murder and try to clear Dougie’s name from suspicion. I was touched emotionally by the awareness of Edna’s concern and care for the people she encountered who were left on the streets and hungry during this time in American history.
I won’t post spoilers, but I was surprised by the ending or the revelation of the murderer! A very good Edna Ferber Mystery!
