Ax to Grind, Kenni Lowry #3, by Tonya Kappes is another mystery with Kenni’s ghost father assisting during the most recent murder in Cottonwood, KY. The small Kentucky town has the usual gossiping ladies and family secrets to add to the confusion when a murder has been discovered.
As Kenni is leaving Hattie’s apartment at the The Inn she hears Kiwi say,” I came from Berlye’s and couldn’t find the book. Couldn’t find the book. Glad she’s dead.” Kiwi is a green macaw and the mascot for the local bed and breakfast. The statements from Kiwi startle Kenni and she is curious who could have said the words the bird is repeating.
Berlye Stone is a well-known author of romance novels and recently returned to Cottonwood live in the old family home and to care for a special needs sister, Hattie. After Berlye’s death, her third cousin Ruby is responsible for having an estate sale to close out Berlye home and contents. Soon a rumor is cast among the circle of Berlye’s friends and associates that there is a Tell-All manuscript hidden in the home or in the furniture, then things start to happen. It is not long until Kenni hears another ominous sounding phrase, “Over My Dead Body!” and very soon there is another dead body!
A very easy to read cozy mystery with fun main characters which will have you smiling as you read. Enjoy!
