Julia Keller, Bone on Bone Bell Elkins #7 Murder Mystery Drama

Bone on Bone (Bell Elkins #7) by author Julia Keller continues in the small Appalachian town of  Acker's Gap, W. Virginia. The town and surrounding communities seem to be in a new wave of drug addictions and overdoses among the young people. Former Prosecutor Belfa Elkins has returned from her incarceration after she admitted shooting her father due to the repeated abuse during her childhood. Bell knows her career in law enforcement will never be the same, but she is rebuilding her life and the relationship with her daughter as she pursues a new job.
The story opens with a scene in which Linda Topping is in the attic room of her home contemplating murder. She has done everything possible to intervene for her son Jeff who has let his life be destroyed by drug addiction. Linda cannot stand to see the worry on her husbands face when they have to take Jeff to an expensive rehab again and again. Each time Jeff comes home from rehab he seems to get worse than he was before the treatment and he is becoming violent along with his stealing. Brent Topping had been gathering information and compiled a book detailing the actions of a local drug supplier. The main mystery occurs when Brent Topping is shot and killed in his driveway.  Was he killed by Jeff, Deke, or maybe Linda?
As the story progresses we learn more about Bell, her sister Shirley and their troubled childhood with an alcoholic father.
If you have read the previous Bell Elkins thrillers, you will be happy to read of other characters coming into action in this story. I enjoyed it very much!
