A Promise to the Dead (Detectives King and Lane #4) by Victoria Jenkins is the latest suspense thriller featuring Detective Inspector Alex King and Detective Constable Chloe Lane. They are called out to a mysterious incident on a country road where a young woman is slumped inside the car after having been shot in the head. The driver is missing and it is unclear if he killed his passenger or if he is a victim. Alex and Chloe are already working on another missing person case of another young man. Alex begins to think there could be a link between the dead and the missing. As the team delves into this case, they uncover secrets which will eventually lead to the death of one of their own team.
I have enjoyed reading this series and it is interesting that Alex will be changing the dynamics of the team. She has submitted her resignation and plans to adopt a child. Good for her!
